A pharmacist and entrepreneur at heart, Bishop has made significant strides in integrating technology and pharmacy to enhance patient care. As the founder and CEO of Custom Health, a vertically integrated virtual care and medication adherence business, he has pioneered the deployment of technology into patients’ homes for remote clinical oversight. Under his leadership, Custom Health has become a trailblazer in utilizing technology to improve patient health outcomes and medication adherence, earning Bishop recognition as one of the Top 50 Healthcare Technology CEOs of 2020.
Bishop’s innovative approach to healthcare extends beyond his entrepreneurial ventures. He created the first central-fill pharmacy in Western Canada, revolutionizing medication preparation by using automation to create patient-specific, multi-dose packaging. This groundbreaking work laid the foundation for his subsequent company, Catalyst Healthcare, which became a leading provider of electronic medication administration record (eMAR) systems, streamlining medication management for long-term care facilities.
Throughout his career, Bishop has been a trusted advisor to pharmacists, government agencies, and industry leaders on matters related to pharmacy technology, medication administration accuracy, adherence, patient outcomes, and related areas. His expertise has been sought after by both large pharmacy chains and independent pharmacies across North America. As the chair of the advisory committee for Healthy Residential Solutions Inc. (HRS) in 2009, he led an independent pharmacy collaborative that applied technology to ensure high-quality patient care.
Bishop’s contributions to the field of healthcare technology have been far-reaching. He played a key role in shaping legislation, serving as a leading contributor to the development of centralized filling and checking legislation for the province of British Columbia. His insights and guidance have been instrumental in driving positive change and advancing the use of technology in healthcare.
With a BSc in Pharmacy from the University of British Columbia and a remarkable track record of success, Bishop brings a unique perspective and a deep understanding of the healthcare landscape to his role as Executive Director of the American Medical Technology Coalition.
As a visionary leader, Bishop is committed to driving meaningful change and creating a collaborative ecosystem that fosters innovation and improves patient lives. His leadership will be instrumental in advancing the coalition’s mission to advocate for policies that support medical technology innovation, facilitate collaborations among members, provide educational resources, and prioritize the needs and experiences of patients.
